Day 7!!

Last Tuesday, after the chocolate bunnies and Easter ham had been eaten, we started the 10,000 steps for 10 Days Pedometer Challenge. How’s it going for you? Have you been getting your 10,000 steps in every day? I hope you continue more than 10 days, however, I felt like having a short-term challenge might motivation some readers that haven’t previously been doing any exercise program.
For myself, I have had a shocking realization. I have always considered myself very active. I wore a pedometer for months when my boys were younger before they were in school. I never got less than 12,000 steps in every day. So after a while I stopped wearing it. Now, even though I run every day and I have actually been running more this winter than normal, I essentially have a ‘desk’ job now with the blog, which means fewer steps than when I ran after the boys all day every day! I have gotten in 10,000 steps in every day during the challenge, but a couple of days (on shorter run days) I would not have gotten them in if I had not taken the dog walking at night when I realized I was not going to get my steps in for the day! I was truly shocked to realize this. So more steps for me every day is my self-imposted challenge!
My point is, if you don’t wear a pedometer and accurately measure your steps, you are probably not getting the exercise that you should be every day. It’s better to see it in black and white.
Along those same lines, I use My Fitness Pal cell phone app every day to record my food intake for the very same reason. It’s easy to forget the handful of crackers you ate at 10 and the extra buttered roll you ate off the kids plate if you’re not mindful and record it.
If you were late getting started on this challenge, start today. Purchase a pedometer, they’re around $10, and record your steps every day. Keep a log. Your goal is 10,000 per day. Try to do it for 10 consecutive days…you may surprise yourself and keep it up!!

  1. You're right, the little items are hard to remember even if you think they won't be!

  2. Great job on this challenge. I keep meaning to wear my pedometer. Good reminder.
