Cinnamon biscuits are rich and buttery, with a ribbon of cinnamon filling. These biscuits taste much like cinnamon rolls but require no wait time to allow for them to rise. Additionally, they are easily made with pantry staples you’re sure to have.

Sharing a great Cinnamon Biscuits recipe with you today, and I just know you will love it! Yes, they’re biscuits from scratch, but the recipe is beyond easy to make with just basic pantry staples!

Cinnamon Biscuits From Scratch

Before I get to the recipe enjoy this bit of humor that I originally wrote about.

Have you ever done something totally embarrassing?
I guess since you’re human you have. Just maybe you didn’t blog about it for the entire world to know the depths of your goofiness… but, oh well, here goes. I’m sure if you’re a regular follower or know me personally, you already know how goofy I am! At this point, I’m kind of giggling about it… kind of.

An Embarrassing Story

Today a ran by our local home-town grocery store, not the big superstore where no one would have even noticed you unless you had purple hair, stripper shorts, and pleather thigh-high boots. Admit it, you’ve all seen the funny pics of People of Wal-Mart….

I digress. I ran into the small home-town grocery store where Bob (that’s his real name, not Billy Joe Jim Bob… just Bob) greets me, asks about the kids and if I’ll be having steak again this week. You see, we always get a ‘his’ and ‘hers’ fillet, no bacon, for weekend grilling.

‘Kids are good. Yes, sir, I’d like the regular’ and proceed to the Meat Market. Now, there are 9 guys that work in the meat market. They nod. I nod. I continue shopping… shopping… shopping…looking (I’m picky about meat) and I notice they’re all looking at me….. looking…. staring…. I’m feeling pretty good at this point. I thought I looked super cute today, I guess I do. I catch my reflection in the window. Good hair. Still got makeup on. Cool! I still may have it….

They bring the steaks, I collect a couple of other items and check out, feeling pretty good about myself. I sashay to the car and get in, grab the seat belt, and *whoa* my fly is open!!! All the way open!!! I mean, seriously!!!! O-P-E-N!!

Omgoodness, my self-confidence…shattered! Not only that, I can not, will not, go back to that store until I’m quite sure there has been a complete turnover in employees!

I’m drowning my embarrassment in a batch of cinnamon biscuits, because, well, I just don’t know what else to do! zip…..

In addition to those staple baking ingredients, you will need just a few more ingredients to make cinnamon biscuits from scratch:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 Tablespoon dark brown sugar
  • 4 Tablespoon granulated sugar divided
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup heavy cream whole milk or evaporated milk may be used, if too dry at more milk one tablespoon at a time. This ingredient gives the biscuits a nice, rich flavor. Half & Half will work, if that’s all you have on hand.
  • 2 teaspoon cinnamon. I like the flavor of Saigon cinnamon, but any variety will be fine.
  • 4 Tablespoon butter softened. Unsalted is best, but as you can see in the photo below, I didn’t have any on hand. If you need to use salted butter, you may want to cut back to half of the salt this biscuit recipe calls for.
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cup confectioners sugar

Ingredient Notes

I always keep my pantry stocked with a few baking ingredients. This way, baking can happen whenever the urge strikes.

I recommend to stock your pantry with these items. All of these items will be used to make this cinnamon biscuit recipe.

  • White and brown sugar
  • Baking powder (I also recommend stocking baking soda. It is good in some recipes as well as for cleaning.)
  • All purpose flour
  • Salt

Making Cinnamon Biscuits from Scratch

  1. Using a fork, mix butter, cinnamon, and sugar together in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Stir the dry ingredients together. In a separate bowl, whisk the dry ingredients together.
  3. Add the liquid ingredients to the dry ingredients.
  4. Pour the heavy cream and vanilla extract into the bowl with the flour.

Cinnamon Biscuits notes

Keep in mind that these are not traditional drop biscuits or rolled/cut buttermilk biscuits. They’re more like butter swim biscuits without the butter. This breakfast treat bakes up in a casserole dish. And, they’re SO easy!

Furthermore, note there isn’t any fat, butter or shortening, in the biscuit dough. The heavy cream provides the fat for the biscuits. Therefore, I do not recommend that you substitute it with anything else. Whole milk or buttermilk will not give you the same outcome.

We like to serve this with bacon and fruit salad.

Perfectly portable, and delicious, too. You can’t beat that!

Cover them with a simply glaze, (1/2 cup milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and 2 cup confectioners sugar) or leave them plain. These biscuits are good either way.

I updated this post from an earlier version dated August 03, 2012. I made new photos and simplified the recipe instructions.

  5. Hi
    These biscuits sound wonderful.
I was just wondering what to do with the other 2 T. of butter.
You say to use 2 T. in the cinnamon sugar mixture and don’t say what to do with the other 2.
