Adjust the oven rack to the lower-middle position. Preheat the oven to425°F. Grease a 10-inch skillet.
In a medium-sized bowl with a fork, stir together the flour and shortening.
Add the bacon, cheese, and pepper and stir.
Add the buttermilk and stir with the fork until a dough forms.
Dump the dough onto a floured surface and press into a rectangle that is 1 and ½-inch thick. Cut 8 biscuits out and place them on your prepared skillet.
Bake 20 to 22 minutes or until golden brown. Serve immediately.
