Soft Fluffy Yeast Rolls

Soft Fluffy Yeast Rolls are extremely light, pillowy soft and fluffy. These melt-in-your-mouth rolls have a hint of butter.

  • 1 cup warm water between 120 - 130 degrees F
  • 2.5 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons butter softened
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 3 & 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour


  • Combine water and yeast in a large glass or plastic mixing bowl and allow to sit for 10 minutes. Add sugar, salt, butter, and egg and beat with the dough hook until well blended and smooth.
  • Add 3 and 1/2 to 4 cups flour and mix until soft dough forms. The dough should not be sticky.
  • Place the dough out onto a floured board and knead a few times until smooth.
  • Place the dough in a greased glass or plastic bowl. I wipe out and grease the mixing bowl I used. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap. Let rise in a warm place approximately 45 minutes. (Your oven or microwave is a good location for this.)
  • Punch the dough down and turn out onto a floured board. Divide dough into 12 large or 18-20 small pieces. Using your hands shape dough into round balls. 
  • Place in a greased 13 x 9-inch baking pan. Let rise again about 30 minutes. 
    Bake 350 for 20 minutes. Brush tops of rolls with butter. The recipe is easily doubled.
