Slow Cooker Creamy Buffalo Chicken

This chicken is INSANELY good! It’s spicy and flavorful and the sauce is silky and creamy.

If you don’t have a slow cooker, you can bake it on low in the oven. Just place the ingredients in a braising pan or Dutch oven with a lid and let it cook on low for a couple of hours.

It’s also simple to make. Let the slow cooker do the work. All you do is place the chicken in the slow cooker with Italian seasoning, cream cheese, and buffalo wing sauce. Turn the slow cooker on and wait. When the chicken is perfectly cooked and juicy, shred the chicken and whisk the sauce until it’s smooth. Serve and watch your family’s faces light up.

  • 2 pounds chicken breasts boneless, skinless. *See post for substitutions
  • .7 ounce pack Italian salad dressing mix I used this brand
  • 4 ounces cream cheese at room temperature, cut into cubes
  • 10 ounces Buffalo chicken wing sauce I used this brand, Moore’s brand, and Sweet Baby Ray’s brand. Honestly, there isn’t much difference in the taste in any of them. BUT, Make sure you use wing sauce, not hot sauce!

Buffalo chicken tips & info

  1. You can use bone-in breast or chicken thighs for this recipe. Allow longer to cook. You’ll have to test the chicken. Cooking time will depend on the thickness of the chicken.
  2. For the packet of Italian Salad Dressing mix, you do not make the salad dressing. Use the seasoning only.
  3. As well, you can use Ranch seasoning mix. I prefer Italian, but both are good.
  4. Please keep in mind that nutritional information is a rough estimate and can vary based on products used.
  5. Finally, I used Frank’s Wing Sauce. You can use a regular hot sauce instead of a wing sauce, but taste test it first and/or reduce the amount you use. It may be extremely hot.

How to shred the chicken

A note on shredded the chicken. You can certainly use two forks and shred the chicken in the slow cooker. However, the cream cheese may not gete fully broken down in the sauce. I like to remove the chicken breasts from the slow cooker. Use a whisk to stir the sauce until it’s smooth and creamy. Now, at this point you can either shred the chicken then place it back into the slow cooker. Or, you can put the breasts back into the slow cooker and shred it in the sauce.

Either method works, and the only reason to take it out is to be able to whisk the sauce better. (Otherwise, you may have little clumps of cream cheese that doesn’t get completely mixed in. – – It will still taste the same though.)

Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken is a versatile and easy family favorite meal. We like to eat it plain with a side salad. It’s also good in a wrap, on tortilla chips, or on hamburger buns.

Wholly moley!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Would have been 5 stars but much too hot.
We like spicy but my lips were burning! Hubby had sweat under eyes and forehead! Did we do something wrong?? 10 oz of hot sauce is too much. We even had an extra pound of chicken in there. With that said…the taste was very yummy minus so much heat. I will make again but will tweak the hot sauce. Had it on a wrap loaded with more cream cheese and cold lettuce to cool down. Will revisit this review after I make again. 😊

    1. Did you use regular hot sauce or wing sauce. The wing sauce or Buffalo chicken sauce isn’t as hot as traditional hot sauce.

      1. Oh dear god he used reg hot sauce and didnt read the directions of tasting it first !!! Just went out to get Frank’s buffalo sauce to try again 🤞🤞😊😊! My son had tears in his eyes…..looking back now it was pretty funny lol

      2. 😂 I thought maybe that’s what happened. Let me know how it goes next time. 😃 This is the best!

Hi Paula! So I am back up to 5 stars! It helps to read directions. I bought hot buffalo and reg buffalo (just in case) 😊

One box of Italian salad dressing mix contains 4 Each – 0.7 ounce packets. Are you sure we should use the whole box based on your directions? The sodium level per serving at 2,303 mg is really concerning. Thoughts? Thank you!

    1. No, that should be 1 pack or one .7 ounces pack/envelope
So sorry for that error, thanks for pointing it out!
