5 STAR BLOODY MARY RECIPE

In the United States, the Bloody Mary is a common “hair of the dog” drink, reputed to cure hangovers with its combination of a heavy vegetable base (to settle the stomach), salt (to replenish lost electrolytes), and alcohol (to relieve head and body aches).

WHAT’S IN A 5 STAR BLOODY MARY RECIPE?

Bloody Marys typically have vodka. However, you can omit the vodka and have a virgin. With all the flavors, it’ll still be fantastic!

  • Bloody Mary base (tomato juice and spices)
  • Salt or Spice rim for glasses
  • Ice
  • Vodka
  • All the garnishes

HOW TO MAKE A BLOODY MARY FROM SCRATCH {NO MIX}

For an easy homemade Bloody Mary base, stir together tomato juice (I prefer low-sodium.), lemon juice, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, celery salt, garlic salt, black pepper, Old Bay Seasoning, and Tobasco in a large pitcher.

  • Mix the Bloody Mary base with vodka in a shaker without ice or stir it together in a large glass or pitcher. (You can prep this a day ahead and refrigerate it. Bloody Mary mix is best very cold.)
  • Rim your glass
  • Add ice to your glass (have plenty of ice on hand if you’re serving multiple guests)
  • Pour your cocktail over ice in your rimmed glass
  • Garnish, garnish, and garnish!

HOW TO RIM A GLASS

  1. Wet the rim of your glass with a wedge of fresh lemon.
  2. Add a tablespoon of Old Bay seasoning to a flat dish.
  3. Dip the glass rim into the seasoning and turn to coat.

Good Morning, I plan to make this for mothers day, I noticed lemon was left out of the instructions, do we add that at the end with the vodka, or does it go into the pitcher with everything else??

    Thanks so much

    1. It goes in with the tomato juice, but it’s fine to put it in last as well. I corrected the recipe card. Thanks for letting me know that was omitted. Apologies for not responding before Mother’s Day.
