A Mint Julep is an alcoholic cocktail made with bourbon, crush mint, ice, and water and served in a silver julep cup. It’s the traditional drink at Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby.
We should all experience a Mint Julep at Churchill Downs during the Kentucky Derby.
It’s on my Bucket List.
Well, it would be on my Bucket List if I had a Bucket List.
I don’t believe in Bucket List.
I prefer to call them ‘Goals’!
So, a major Goal of mine is to wear a big, obnoxious hat, sip a mint julep in a sky box at Churchill Downs. I dream BIG.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 4 mint sprigs fresh
- 2 1/2 oz good bourbon Knob Creek, Woodford Reserve, Buffalo Trace
- 1 oz *simple syrup
- 1 oz tonic water
- Crushed ice
- Silver Julep cup
- Muddle mint. In a shaker, add Woodford Reserve Kentucky Bourbon, mint and simple syrup. Shake 30 seconds. Fill Julep cup with crushed ice. Pour bourbon, mint and syrup mixture over ice. Top with splash of tonic.
*For simple syrup boil equal parts water and sugar until sugar is dissolved. Chill.
