How to Make Nerds Strawberry Bundt Cake

The full, printable recipe is at the bottom of the post.

  1. Prepare the Bundt pan

Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease a 10- to 12-cup Bundt pan generously with shortening.

  2. Make the cake batter

Mix the strawberry cake mix, vanilla instant pudding mix, sour cream, eggs, water, vegetable oil, and Nerds candy in a large mixing bowl.

  3. Fill the pan

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared Bundt pan.

  4. Bake

Bake at 350°F for 30 to 35 minutes.

  5. Cool

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 20 minutes.

  6. Make the glaze

Add the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to a small bowl. Stir until smooth.

  7. Glaze and decorate

Once the cake has cooled completely, drizzle the vanilla glaze over the top and sprinkle additional Nerds candies.

Tips for the Best Nerds Strawberry Bundt Cake

Grease every part of the Bundt pan. Bundt cakes have lots of edges and curves where cake can stick. Use Wilton Cake Release and coat the entire inside of the pan.

Don’t skip the cooling time. Let the cake sit in the pan for about 20 minutes before turning it out. Trying to remove it immediately can cause the cake to break.

Cool completely before glazing. A warm cake will cause the glaze to melt and run off rather than sit nicely on top.

Add the Nerds immediately after glazing. The candy sticks better to the soft glaze.

Don’t overbake. Begin checking the cake at 30 minutes. A clean cake tester means it’s ready.

What Size Bundt Pan Should I Use?

This recipe works best in a 10- to 12-cup Bundt pan.

Don’t fill the pan more than about two-thirds full. If your Bundt pan is smaller, you may have extra batter. Use any extra batter to make a few cupcakes rather than overfilling the pan.

Can I Make This Cake Ahead?

Yes. You can bake the strawberry Bundt cake a day ahead.

Allow the cake to cool completely, then cover it tightly and store it at room temperature. Add the glaze and Nerds candy shortly before serving for the best appearance.

How to Store Nerds Strawberry Bundt Cake

Because the glaze contains milk, refrigerate the cake if you prefer or if your kitchen is particularly warm. Bring refrigerated cake closer to room temperature before serving for the best texture and flavor.

Can I Freeze Strawberry Bundt Cake?

Yes. For the best results, freeze the cake before adding the glaze and decorative Nerds.

Wrap the completely cooled cake tightly in plastic wrap, then place it in a freezer-safe bag or container. Freeze for up to 2 months.

Thaw overnight in the refrigerator or at room temperature. Add the glaze and Nerds after the cake has thawed.

Variations

Strawberry Lemon Bundt Cake. Add a little lemon zest to the batter and substitute some lemon juice for the milk in the glaze.

Strawberry Cream Cheese Glaze. Replace the simple vanilla glaze with a cream cheese glaze for a richer finish.

Extra-Nerdy Strawberry Cake. Add additional Nerds candy to the top after glazing for even more color and crunch.

Valentine’s Day Strawberry Cake. Use pink and red candy or Valentine’s-themed sprinkles with the Nerds for a festive dessert.

What to Serve With Strawberry Bundt Cake

This cake is easy to serve on its own, but you can dress up each slice with:

  • Fresh strawberries
  • Whipped cream
  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Strawberry sauce
  • Fresh mint

Nerds Strawberry Bundt Cake FAQ

Can I use a different flavor of cake mix?

Yes. Strawberry cake mix gives this recipe its strawberry flavor, but you can experiment with other flavors. Keep in mind that changing the cake mix will change the overall flavor and color.

Why add pudding mix to a cake?

Instant pudding mix adds moisture and helps create a softer cake texture. It is a simple way to make a boxed cake mix taste and feel more homemade.

Can I use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream?

Plain Greek yogurt can generally be substituted for sour cream in cakes. Use the same amount.

Why did my Bundt cake stick to the pan?

The most common causes are inadequate greasing or turning the cake out too soon. Coat the entire pan thoroughly with Wilton Cake Release or shortening, including the center tube and all the ridges.

When should I add the Nerds candy?

Add the Nerds that go inside the cake with the batter. For the topping, sprinkle the candy over the glaze while the glaze is still soft so it sticks.
