Tomato Cream Sauce Sausage Gnocchi
This recipe is outrageously easy to make. Plus, I adore gnocchi. They are pillowy soft bites of potatoes covered in sausage and spicy cream and tomato sauce.
Cooking gnocchi is just like cooking pasta. Except cooking gnocchi is quicker AND gnocchi will rise to the top of the water when they are cooked. How wonderful is that?
This recipe is very versatile.
- You can easily make this a vegetarian recipe and omit the sausage.
- You can add more or less cream to make it, well, more or less creamy. Or, should I say more or less tomatoey? Hmmm…
- If you can’t find or don’t like gnocchi, substitute pasta or tortellini instead.
What kind of gnocchi do I use?
You can use shelf-stable potato gnocchi. I found in the pasta aisle of my grocery store. Alternately, you can use refrigerated gnocchi. You can find refrigerated gnocchi with the refrigerated fresh pasta in the grocery stores.
Tools for this recipe
- You’ll need a large pot to cook the gnocchi
- A colander to drain the gnocchi
- A saucepan or braiser pan
- Wood spoons

I’ve never had gnocchi and it’s one of the things on my list to try and make. I’m filing away this delicious tomato cream sauce to have with it when I do. But in the meantime, I have to tell you this was absolutely stupendous tossed with fettuccine. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

Such a tasty recipe – so quick and easy. I left out the sausage in order to make it vegetarian, but otherwise followed the recipe as written. A keeper for quick meals.
