How to Make a Bagel with Egg, Prosciutto, and Garlic Butter Sandwich

Time needed: 25 minutes

These egg and cheese bagel sammies come together quickly and make a great grab-and-go breakfast. I usually make two batches ahead of time. Then, I store half in the fridge for the next week, and freeze the rest for later.

  1. Make the Garlic Butter

In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, oregano, paprika, and chopped parsley. Stir until well mixed.

  2. Toast the Bagels

Spread the garlic butter evenly over the top of each bagel. Layer each bagel with a slice of cheddar cheese, followed by a slice of Italian salami, and then a slice of prosciutto. (This will go on top of the bagel.)

  3. Cook the Eggs

Carefully make a small hole in the center of the prosciutto on each bagel to hold the egg. Crack an egg into each hole, allowing the egg white to spread slightly. Don’t worry if some of the egg white spills over. (See notes in recipe card below for optional method.)

  4. Bake

Sprinkle each bagel with a bit of paprika and salt. Place the bagels on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 13-16 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the prosciutto is golden brown and crispy.

  5. Serve

Serve immediately while warm and enjoy.

Tips for the Best Breakfast Bagel Sandwich

Use Fresh Bagels

Fresh bagels provide the best texture, whether they’re homemade or store-bought. Plain, everything, sesame, or asiago bagels all work well.

Don’t Skip the Garlic Butter

The garlic herb butter adds flavor to every bite and helps take this sandwich from ordinary to memorable.

Choose a Good Cheese

Cheddar adds a rich, sharp flavor, but provolone, mozzarella, Swiss, or pepper jack are excellent options too.

You can slice the bagels and layer the ingredients for a sandwich instead of putting them on top. For this method, slice the bagel and spread butter on both sides. Toast, then layer the cheese, salami, and prosciutto on the bagel. Cook the eggs in a skillet to your preference and layer them on the sandwiches. Fried eggs work especially well for this sandwich. You can eat the sandwiches or eat as is. The heat from the egg will melt the cheese.
