Limoncello Margarita

WHAT IS LIMONCELLO?

Limoncello is an Italian lemon liqueur. It is both tart and sweet. (Actually, it’s the second most popular liqueur in Italy after Campari. That surprised me!)

As well, limoncello has become very popular in the US. Therefore, if you don’t see it at your local liquor store ask for it! It may just be displayed in an odd location.

MARGARITAS ARE LEGIT!

Margaritas make the International Bartender Association’s IBA official cocktails list. Basically, this means it is an official internationally recognized cocktail.

The classic margarita is made with tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice. It is most often served with salt on the rim of the glass.

EASY LIMONCELLO MARGARITA

It’s so refreshingly tart!

First, the bright lemon flavor of limoncello pairs perfectly with fresh lime and tequila for a top-notch margarita! Naturally, limoncello adds concentrated lemon flavor. Furthermore, that intensity is impossible to get from just lemon juice.

In this recipe, I simply add limoncello Italian liqueur to the popular margarita. The combination makes a great drink.

INGREDIENTS FOR LIMONCELLO MARGARITA

The ingredients merge wonderfully together.

  • Tequila
  • Limoncello
  • Lime juice
  • Simple syrup
  • Club soda
  • Sugar or salt rim

HOW TO MAKE SIMPLE SYRUP

In a small saucepan over medium heat, stir together 1 cup lemon juice and 1 cup sugar. You can use coconut sugar. Bring it to a boil. Next, reduce heat. Simmer for about 10 minutes or until the mixture is thick and syrupy.

You can store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.

Furthermore, you can use honey or agave nectar instead of simple syrup.

HOW TO RIM A GLASS

First, add the salt or sugar to a small plate. Next, run a lemon (or lime) wedge around the rim of the glass. Finally, dip the glass in the salt.

That’s it! Easy peasy!

MIX IT AND SERVE

All you need to do to make this cocktail is put your ingredients, except the club soda, in a shaker. Shake it for 30 seconds!

Furthermore, you can multiply the amounts and make it for a crowd. Pour the ingredients into a pitcher and stir.

Next, add a splash of club soda. Also, you can use sparkling water. Finally, add a lemon or lime wedge and serve.
