20 Minute Pork Chop Rice One Pot Recipe is an economical and healthy meal; tasty pork chops and rice are bathed in a rich sauce your family will love.

20 Minute Pork Chop Rice One Pot Recipe

Friends often make the assumption that because I like to cook that I want to cook and have time to cook every meal. In reality, I’m just like you, I struggle with juggling work and family activities. Granted, I can throw a dessert together in minutes. However, satisfying my sweet tooth is much easier than satisfying three food critic boys!

So how do I put a home-cooked meal on the table during busy weeknights? The trick is short cut products like Success® Rice. Success® Rice is the original boil-in-bag rice that cooks perfectly every time and is ready in 10 minutes. The Brown Rice I used is 100% whole grain and gluten-free. There are 3 other varieties available: White Rice, Thai Jasmine, and Basmati.

The secret to my 20-minute meal is I cook everything in one pot. Quick-cooking and quick clean-up. I actually take the rice out of the bag, it’s all good, it’s still conveniently premeasured cutting down on prep time for me.

Did you know when your heating a pan, you first need to heat the pan without fat in it? The process is to heat the pan, then add the fat, in this case, oil, then allow the oil to heat and ripple before adding your protein. This reduces the chances of burning the oil.

If you have 20 minutes and pork chops in the fridge, you can have this dinner ready to serve your family.

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes
Servings: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 4 thin cut pork chops about 1 and 1/2 pounds total
  • ½ teaspoon salt divided
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 10.5 -ounce french onion soup
  • 6 -ounce mushroom steak sauce I used this. Or, substitute if needed > French onion soup or canned au jus gravy
  • 1 and ½ cup water
  • 1 pouch Boil in the bag Minute rice regular or whole grain, I used this

Instructions

  • Heat pan to medium high
  • Season both sides of pork chops with 1/4 teaspoon salt and pepper
  • When pan is hot, add oil
  • When oil is hot, add pork chops
  • Cook 3 to 4 minutes, depending on thickness, on each side.
  • Remove pork chops from pan. (You will add them back in a few minutes.)
  • Remove the uncooked rice from bag and toast in the pan in drippings for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  • Add french onion soup, mushroom steak sauce and water to pan with rice.
  • Stir and remove and rice that may have stuck to the bottom of the pan.
  • Bring to a low boil.
  • Cook uncovered 16 to 18 minutes or until rice is done.
  • Add pork chops back into pan and heat through.
  • Taste and add 1/4 teaspoon salt if necessary.

Notes

The pork chops may splatter grease when cooking at a high temperature. Cover the pan with a splatter guard and don't allow children in area while searing pork chops. You can use Success® White Rice and Success® Whole Grain Brown Rice in this recipe. The cooked rice can sit up to 30 minutes making this a foolproof and worry-free dish.

I have been making this for 50 years. A family friend gave me the recipe back in. The 60’s. The only difference is the mushroom steak sauce. It is not part of my recipe.
I use 2 cups of rice to the 4 cups of water that the lipton onion soup envelope calls for. We have this often.

Paula, how many cups of regular rice would this use? We don’t particularly like Success rice.

1 cup of regular rice equals 1 boil in bag.

You don’t list the rice in the ingredients. How many bags do you use? What size?

What is mushroom steak sauce? Is there a brand? Or do you mean mushroom gravy?

I would probably work with mushroom gravy, which is what I meant to pick up. The link to exactly brand is in the comments above, Shawntel.

Dumb question but do I cook the rice first and then add to drippings?
    Thanks

No and I just realized my instructions are unclear on that. Add the uncooked rice and you’ll kind of toast it slightly then the rice will cook in the french onion soup, mushroom steak sauce and water.

Lisa, my parents were old school, we only had ‘real’ rice, I didn’t even know about Success rice until I was in college. My husband was right the opposite, he thought all rice cooks in 5 minutes 🙂

I can’t wait to try this, but what is mushroom steak sauce? What brand should I be looking for, and where in the grocery store will I find it?

Hi Teresa. I know, I actually meant to pick up mushrooms, but got the mushroom steak sauce instead and wanted to write the recipe exactly as I made it. I don’t remember the brand but it was right beside the mushrooms in a little 4 oz jar. I will look tomorrow when I go and get the name for you.

Teresa, I decided to look on Walmart’s website and I found exactly what I used. It’s 6 oz not 4 though. This link will take you to the product so you can see http://www.walmart.com/ip/Dawn-Fresh-By-Giorgio-Mushroom-Steak-Sauce-6-Oz/10308570
