PMc’s Caramel Cobbler is rich and buttery and takes just minutes to put together. Perfect for potluck and entertaining. This Caramel Cobbler has a decadent, self-made caramel sauce that you’ll want to keep eating and eating!
This. This is my go-to dessert! It takes just minutes to put together and I with such a basic ingredient list, I always have the ingredients to make it.
When I have a dinner party, I can mix it together quickly as I talk to quests and put it in the oven. It’s hot and ready to eat by the time we finish the meal.

The only way you can get a dessert any easier is purchase one already made and that would totally not be as tasty!
PMc’s Caramel Cobbler is one of those quickly made ‘dump’ type dessert. Do you know what I mean when I say that? Basically, you layer (dump) everything in a pan and bake it. There’s no pulling out the electric mixer, no kneading, no waiting for something to rise! It’s a straight-forward, super-easy layer and bake dessert.
The milk, brown sugar and butter cook to create a rich, creamy caramel sauce hugging the cobbler. It’s best served with a big spoon straight out of the pan warm with good vanilla ice cream or freshly whipped cream.
Paradise for some people may be a sunny beach with palm trees and cocktails. Paradise for me would be eating as much of this as I wanted without gaining an ounce! #justsayin I’m sure the streets of heaven are lined with PMc’s Caramel Cobbler, it just looks like gold!
PMc’s Caramel Cobbler
- First of all, I recommend real butter for this dessert. The caramel sauce will not cook correctly with a substitute.
- However, you can substitute all-purpose flour for the self-rising flour. To make your own, combine 1 cup of all-purpose flour with 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. You will need to adjust this ratio for the amount called for in this recipe.
- You can use whole milk, 1% or 2%. Typically, I use 2% milk.
Melt butter in pan in oven

*Tip ~Did you know this little trick? Whisk your flour instead of sifting it.
Works just as well and much faster!
Stir flour and sugar together
add vanilla to milk
pour milk mixture into flour mixture and stir
melted butter makes me happy!
pour batter over butter
still pouring
sprinkle brown sugar over batter
carefully pour hot water over everything

Do you used salted or unsalted butter?
Paula says
Hi Jennifer, I use salted butter.
asuffusionofyellow says
Brilliant. I did it with only a cup of sugar in the batter, though and it was still PLENTY sweet. Served it to people who have had lots of desserts in this life, and they said it was the best they ever had.
Paula says
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it

Hello, that recipe sounds scrumptious! Uuummmm ! Now here’s my simple question. Can you add a can of fruit to thus recipe? Like peaches or apples? Even blackberries? I can just taste the yummy caramel with the fruit! What do you think? I think I’m going to try it!
Vickie says
Just made this but used butter milk…I ended up adding more like a cup of it but it was AMAZING!
Robin says
Paula, I noticed your Snickerdoodle Cobbler, Caramel Cobbler, and Pecan Cobbler are all virtually the same recipe, except you add pecans to the Pecan Cobbler. Wouldn’t it have been more straightforward to present a single recipe with a pecan variation? The only difference I saw between Snickerdoodle and Caramel was slightly more butter in the Caramel one. Really?? Am I missing something?
Donna says
I have a depression Era recipe for caramel dumplings. So I can absolutely taste this.
Jan says
Going to make for Church dinner, going to add apples, I believe it will be delicious!!
Joshua says
Is 3/4 cup milk accurate? I’ve made this a few times with 3/4 cup milk and I have a stiff dough, not a batter. Given the other recipes I use for quick cobbler, I’ve been making this 1 1/2 cup milk instead. It turns out, but I keep guessing when I show people this recipe.
Please Advise?
Also, every single time I’ve made this, I’ve gotten one small serving out of each one… Everyone eats it before I get back to it.. This is an awesome recipe!
Denise says
This is great! I fool myself thinking it is low cal! I top it with Vanilla Frozen Yogurt! This is perfect for summer or winter!
Terry says
Made this for dinner tonight. Shared it with the neighbors. Thumbs up all around. Soooo unbelievably easy but the payoff is huge! Definitely going in my “Keeper” binder!
Heather says
Thank you for sharing! It’s really delicious, and everyone had seconds. I might have done something wrong, though, because I had to double the amount of milk to get my batter to be the consistency of that in the picture. I reduced the amount of water, and it was delicious! I will be trying the pecan cobbler next.
Patti says
Could you half this recipe to make it in an 8×8 pan?
Patti says
the recipe can out fine halved, also added pecans, yummy!!!

I found this recipe on pinterest today-and made it for hubby, he loves caramel. I put a dish together for him, as he was leaving the kitchen he made a u-turn and took more cobbler. I don’t think the cobbler is going to last to long 🙂
Paula says
Yay! I’m so happy you guys liked it! Yeah, it doesn’t last long. It only last 2 days at my house and I’m the only one that eats it! 🙂
Scott says
PMc, whooping up a batch of this right now during the Cowboy football game (yeah, their winning) I got a sweet tooth for cobbler just now but didn’t have any fruit. Then I remembered this. I’ve made it once before and OMG. Almost everybody has stuff for this in the pantry, and man, is it good. Thanks for the recipe. LOVE it!!!
Paula says
Ha, been watching the game too! Hope you enjoy it, wish I had some, I’ve been craving something seet all day!
ALW says
Do you refrigerate leftovers, or is it safe to leave out?
Paula says
I would refrigerate them. I have actually left it on the counter for a couple of days, but I feel better about refrigerating. It usually doesn’t last long enough to have to keep for very long 🙂
ALW says
Ok. I made it yesterday and it was very good. We refrigerated it, but there’s not much left. Thanks!
Paula says
You’re so welcome, I’m glad you enjoy it!

That recipe sounds wonderful. If I were to use regular flour do you know how much salt and baking soda/ powder i should add?
Paula says
If you use 1 and 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, add 2 teaspoons baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon salt to the recipe. Hope you enjoy it, let me know how it turns out!

Looks great! I have to bring a dessert to a party Friday and don’t have much time for anything too fancy. This looks great! Do you think adding some sea salt would work? I’m loving the salted caramel right now..:
Paula says
I haven’t done much with sea salt, I know it’s all the rage right now, but I’m just not familiar with it. Maybe a sprinkle on top. I think you’ll really be happy with this dessert though, it’s one of my very favorites! Hope they enjoy it!
