This. This is my go-to dessert! It takes just minutes to put together and I with such a basic ingredient list, I always have the ingredients to make it.

When I have a dinner party, I can mix it together quickly as I talk to quests and put it in the oven. It’s hot and ready to eat by the time we finish the meal.

The only way you can get a dessert any easier is to purchase one already made and that would totally not be as tasty!

PMc’s Caramel Cobbler is one of those quickly made ‘dump’ type desserts. Do you know what I mean when I say that? Basically, you layer (dump) everything in a pan and bake it. There’s no pulling out the electric mixer, no kneading, and no waiting for something to rise! It’s a straightforward, super-easy layer-and-bake dessert.

The milk, brown sugar, and butter cook to create a rich, creamy caramel sauce hugging the cobbler. It’s best served with a big spoon straight out of the pan warm with good vanilla ice cream or freshly whipped cream.

  1. First of all, I recommend real butter for this dessert. The caramel sauce will not cook correctly with a substitute.
  2. However, you can substitute all-purpose flour for self-rising flour. To make your own, combine 1 cup of all-purpose flour with 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. You will need to adjust this ratio for the amount called for in this recipe.
  3. You can use whole milk, 1% or 2%. Typically, I use 2% milk.

  1. Brilliant. I did it with only a cup of sugar in the batter, though and it was still PLENTY sweet. Served it to people who have had lots of desserts in this life, and they said it was the best they ever had.

  2. Hello, that recipe sounds scrumptious! Uuummmm ! Now here’s my simple question. Can you add a can of fruit to thus recipe? Like peaches or apples? Even blackberries? I can just taste the yummy caramel with the fruit! What do you think? I think I’m going to try it!

  3. Just made this but used butter milk…I ended up adding more like a cup of it but it was AMAZING!

  4. Paula, I noticed your Snickerdoodle Cobbler, Caramel Cobbler, and Pecan Cobbler are all virtually the same recipe, except you add pecans to the Pecan Cobbler. Wouldn’t it have been more straightforward to present a single recipe with a pecan variation? The only difference I saw between Snickerdoodle and Caramel was slightly more butter in the Caramel one. Really?? Am I missing something?

I have a depression Era recipe for caramel dumplings. So I can absolutely taste this.

  6. Going to make for Church dinner, going to add apples, I believe it will be delicious!!

Is 3/4 cup milk accurate? I’ve made this a few times with 3/4 cup milk and I have a stiff dough, not a batter. Given the other recipes I use for quick cobbler, I’ve been making this 1 1/2 cup milk instead. It turns out, but I keep guessing when I show people this recipe.

    Please Advise?

Also, every single time I’ve made this, I’ve gotten one small serving out of each one… Everyone eats it before I get back to it.. This is an awesome recipe!

  8. This is great! I fool myself thinking it is low cal! I top it with Vanilla Frozen Yogurt! This is perfect for summer or winter!
