I put a spin on the authentic mojito with my Strawberry Blackberry Vodka Mojito. It’s deceptively delicious. The fruit, mint and lightly sweet flavors making it a refreshing drink on a hot day!
A few weeks ago I wrote a post on how I love to garden. If it’s not a plant that blooms beautiful flowers, my second favorite item to grow is herbs. I love to grow flavorful herbs and use them in my recipes. Fresh herb adds so much more flavor to foods than dried herbs. I also like to use herbs like rosemary, mint, and basil in cocktails.
The mint I purchase at nurseries prefers shade. I like to keep my herbs on the front porch where it’s easy for me to access. I use Miracle-Gro to fertilize my herbs and the job or watering goes to my boys.
Do you grow herbs or vegetables? Or, do you prefer to grow flowers or shrubs? My husband’s most favorite things to grow are grass and tomatoes. I totally don’t understand watching the lawn grow, but he’ll stand at the window and just look at the lawn for hours. Okay, it’s probably just minutes but it feels like hours! I do agree with growing vegetables. I love fresh vine-ripe tomatoes.
What do you like to grow, leave me a comment below?
As I said, I like to grow herbs and one of my favorite herbs is mint. I’ll be honest, I mostly just use it in mojitos. My most favorite cocktail is the mojito. One taste and you’ll understand why. Today I ventured out front the traditional mojito and made a Strawberry Blackberry Vodka Mojito.
STRAWBERRY BLACKBERRY VODKA MOJITO
This Strawberry Blackberry Mojito is as tasty as it is beautiful! I don’t know if you’ll be the life of the party, but I sure know it will be a hit!
I made this batch on a hot, sunny day, sat on the patio and drank them like they were my job. Actually, they kind of are…I mean, I blog. I made them for the blog. Logical.
Drinking mojitos is my job.
With the onset of warmer weather, I’ve been thinking about putting my toes in the sand and kicking back with a cold one. Even kicking back on the porch, which is where I’ll more-than-likely be, but, yeah, that’s better than holed up in the house in 3 layers of clothes!!
Strawberries are in season and I’ve been buying some every week! In the last couple of weeks, they’ve also had great looking blackberries, so I loaded up on them too! I love to pack the boys’ lunch with fresh fruit. However, Friday arrived and I knew the berries wouldn’t keep until Monday. I had to act fast!
So they went from being a nutritious snack for the boys to a cocktail for me! A logical transition, right?
I substituted vodka for the traditional rum in this mojito version, but you could use rum if you prefer.

What a great summer drink. I have just started the year or two making cocktails. I am still a bit intimidated, but so far I have success every time. Dang I wish I hadn’t written that. Probably jinxed myself. I find that I am a very popular person, when I change it serving a cocktail instead of merely wine. Of course being popular is very very important to me—–I said with my tongue in my cheek.
Paula says
I don’t feel confident making cocktails either. I have to experiment and perfect it and make 3 or 4 in the process.
